Surviving New Orleans

It's been a while since I've posted anything new, but this had to be shared with as many people as possible. Right now, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, there are people holed up in an office building, surviving in New Orleans. Those people have a connection with the rest of the world right here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/interdictor/.

Cops are looting and things are chaos. It's a warzone. At least these people know better than to depend on anybody but themselves. Our prayers go out to those few people in Outpost Crystal. Godspeed, and stay safe.

I saw your comment on interdictor's LiveJournal. If you're looking for something you can do besides donating here in SC, the Columbia office of the Salvation Army needs help manning a phone bank for donations. Here's the meat of the email that I got:

Tomorrow from 5AM to 8PM we will be joining with WLTX to hold a phone bank for viewers and listeners to call in and donate
funds. WE are in urgent need of funds right now to help support the families and teams already down in the aftermath. We need volunteers to answer phones when callers want to donate. WE have posted the shifts in 1 hour intervals on the volunteerfirst website, which can be accessed
from our local website of www.DoingTheMostGood.org. WE look forward to any opportunities you can help us with and if you have any questions please call Karla Hoppmann at 765-0260 ext. 22. Thank You for all that you do!
